An exploration of three words which explain the Jewish understanding of Passover: - Family: Passover was eaten with the people closest to you, hence the reason why it was so shocking for Jesus to suggest that someone at the table might betray him. - Celebration: an occasion to give thanks to God for setting his people free from slavery in Egypt and defeating their enemy. - Anticipation: Passover was not just about looking back to past glories. It was a reminder of God’s power and offered hope about how God

This story is often described as a portrayal of two different types of people: 'Marthas' who have a tendency towards busyness and 'Marys' who are more predisposed to contemplation. But this passage is more about the choices and priorities each one of us needs to make. Will we 'choose what is better' by focussing on Jesus and the things that will last - 'faith, hope and love'? ‘Within us we have both Mary and Martha. Often my ‘inner Martha’ is harsh on my ‘inner Mary’. We need to listen to Jesus who says tha

A reflection on how things happen in times of significant change in our lives: often we don't seek the change, the change comes at us; we can't make the change on our own - we need the help of God, and we need other people to lead us to God. Jesus' temptation takes place immediately after his baptism, when a voice from heaven affirms that he is God's beloved son. His temptation demonstrates three patterns which are common to the temptations we face as well: - The devil tries to undermine his identity: 'If you are the Son of God...' - The devil distorts Scripture - The devil short-circuits God's way of doing things. One day every knee will bow to Jesus, but only after he has obeyed his Father by going the way of the cross.
