Hot chocolate in hot demand at Lights Switch-On!
In a change to our usual procedure, the mince pies and hot chocolate for the Selsdon Lights Switch-On at the end of November were served inside the Foyer. There is always a crowd along the high street waiting for Father Christmas to come along in his decorated truck and for the Lights to be switched on. Previously, refreshments were given out at the bottom of the church drive, but this led to crowds sometimes spilling into the road.
In the preceding weeks, Kathryn had visited local schools giving out 'golden tickets' for free drinks and mince pies or biscuits, and it seemed as though most of those children, and their parents, turned up to claim their prize! As soon as the school group had finished their Carol singing outside the Village Club, they and their families formed a long but orderly queue all down the church drive waiting to be served. Those in the downstairs kitchen had to work flat out to keep up with the demand!
Many thanks to all those who helped on the night, and to everyone for your donations of mince pies and wrapped biscuits.
