Hello church...
We’re now into the summer term, and there are lots of exciting things happening that I look forward to telling you all about!
We have started some new teaching on a Sunday morning in Rooted. We spent some time with the young people before the term started, encouraging them to think about what questions they have, and what topics they would like to talk about more. So, we have based the sessions between now and the summer all around that, looking at themes such as: The Holy Spirit and how it works, Persecution and how we should deal with this, Suffering in the Old Testament and much more! It is really great to see the young people growing in confidence in asking these kinds of questions, showing some eagerness to talk about such important themes.
We are also going to be starting something new in LIFE between now and the summer. In some of the young people’s feedback, lots of them said they’d really like to do cooking again… so they spoke, and we listened! We’ll be cooking a variety of recipes, whilst thinking about how we’re ALL invited to God’s table. We’re going to delve into the Bible, looking at all the different times Jesus himself spent eating with people, and how much value there is in that. The main question of these weeks being, are our young people confident enough to talk about and share faith with others?
Assemblies in Tenison’s continue to go well, and I feel that I’ve got a great relationship with the year group now, and they know me a lot better too, which is really great to see.
We are planning some trips and events for the youth between now and the summer, one of them being a pizza party on 30 May at SBC, which we will be opening up to the Year 6s who will be joining the youth group in September, so that they can get to know us and the other young people better, and so when September comes around they’ll feel more settled.
A group of the young adults are running a retreat weekend at the end of May, where on the Saturday, we are off to Wychcroft Retreat Centre for the day, focusing on the theme of the Sabbath, and ‘finding rest amongst the busyness’. We are really looking forward to spending this time of fellowship together, but most importantly, to spend time listening and hearing from God.
Please do continue to pray for the young people who are currently doing exams, that they may know God’s peace as they revise and sit the exams themselves, and on the lead-up to results day in the summer too.
God bless you all and thank you for your continued support for all things youth ministry at SBC!
