Making Covenant with One Another

One of the highlights of our autumn was the service held on Sunday 17 September, when we committed ourselves to walking together as a church using the words of our covenant, which expresses our gratitude to God for all he has done for us and our desire, as individuals and a body of believers, to give our best in response to him. At the end of our service, each of us made an imprint on a piece of canvas, a visual symbol of the diversity of the church family to which we belong.

For those of who missed the service, a copy of our covenant’s wording can be found below. If you would like to know about church membership, please speak with Trevor or one of our deacons.

Selsdon Baptist Church Covenant
I am thankful to God for his forgiveness to me and his gift of new life for me.
I commit to being a disciple of Jesus, trying to obey his word, show his love, and follow him in the church and the world.

I will do my best to live a life that demonstrates my faith in Jesus through values and practices different from the world around me. I will look to serve instead of advancing myself, love unconditionally and have my character changed to become more like my Saviour.

I will seek God through prayer and reflection on Scripture, showing love, encouragement and care to others in this church family and making myself open to their care and allowing them to speak into my life. I also commit to support the church by taking an active part in the moments when we come together to seek God’s guidance and make decisions about the life and mission we share together.

I commit to support SBC and its vision by giving what I can of my time, my talents and my resources. I commit to helping to make SBC a church which offers a warm and friendly welcome to everyone who visits, and I will do my best to witness to God’s love not only at church, but among those with whom I live, work and share my life.

I recognise that I cannot do any of this in my own strength, but only with the help of others and through the resurrection power of Jesus at work in my life through the Holy Spirit.

I commit, with my fellow members of Selsdon Baptist Church, before God, to uphold Our Vision. May God be glorified and have his way among us.

May the God of hope fill us with all joy and peace as we trust in him, so that we may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
