Chrissie Nichols is one of our
members who has been serving God with YWAM in
Seattle since 2002. She writes:
I was born and raised in
Croydon, but am now based in Seattle, which is in
Washington state, in the northwest of the USA.
In 2002 I felt God’s leading to
take part in a Discipleship Training School (DTS),
run through Youth With A Mission (YWAM). YWAM has
bases all over the world, but I felt called to
Seattle. After completing the 5 month program for
myself, which included a two month overseas outreach
in Kyrgyzstan, I felt a really strong pull to be
back in Seattle, and so after much prayer I joined
YWAM staff in Seattle. Since joining I have been
involved in staffing 4 DTS programs and have led 2
month outreaches to Thailand, China/Tibet and most
recently to Zambia, Africa.

I believe that I am called to a
life of long term discipleship and pastoral care,
and this position within YWAM allows me to do this.
I see how much the young people coming through our
program are changed during these experiences and how
they carry the lessons they learn on into the rest
of their lives. The students get to know God better,
and begin to take more ownership for their
relationships with Him. Their vision for their lives
becomes clearer, and their faith stretched and
challenged but at the same time is strengthened and
deepened.

In the summers I have been a
part of our Mission Adventures program. This is set
up for church youth groups and includes 4 days of
training and teambuilding before the teams go on to
their Mission Trips. We host teams into the city of
Seattle, as well as sending teams to places
overseas. I have taken short term teams to Costa
Rica, and last year as we partnered with the
hurricane relief work happening on the gulf coast, I
went with a team to Louisiana.

I am so thankful to Selsdon
Baptist Church and it’s members for your constant
and unwavering support . I see so clearly the
blessing of being a part of the body of Christ,
through your encouragement and prayers.
