A few years ago, there was a church committee called the Social Action Group, set
up to think and pray about ways in which the church could become involved in helping
in the community. At the time there was a coffee morning held at our church for older
members of the community run by 'Contact', the Neighbourhood Care scheme.
Wendy Ware suggested that the folk who came to that, would appreciate another coffee morning in the month. After discussion, we decided instead to hold an afternoon tea, which became known as T@3. Now we have up to 28 older folk 'on our books' who come as regularly as health, appointments and visitors etc allow, some of whom also attend our services.
We meet in the foyer from 2 30 pm onwards on the fourth Wednesday of the month, and
then move into the coffee lounge for a typical 'olde tea shoppe' tea – scones and
jam, plenty of home-
All this would not be possible without our team of drivers who pick up most of our guests who otherwise would be unable to come. Similarly, we could not function without our team who lay tables, serve the tea and wash up and also those who make the cakes and scones.
In case you think that all we do is eat and chat, we always exercise our little grey cells' by doing a quiz, which is prepared by another helper. The room goes very quiet for a little while but then the quiz becomes more of a joint effort as they start helping each other with the more difficult clues!
If you have an older neighbour or friend who would be glad of an opportunity to come
out and meet our friendly group do please invite them to come along to our next meeting
on the 4th Wednesday of the month -
