Serving God in Seattle

One of our members, Chrissie Nichols has recently returned to the Youth With A Mission (YWAM) base in Seattle to continue serving as a volunteer on staff there.

The summer will bring several youth groups to Seattle for the short-term missionary experience Mission Adventures. The groups have a few days' preparation which includes Bible study and practising with puppets and drama. They then go for a week on a mission trip to put their training into practice. Some groups go to another city in the US, while others go further. Chrissie will be accompanying a group of 30-40 Texan high school students to Costa Rica on a 10-day mission. Once there they will assist in a project to build houses for disadvantaged families and if they have any energy left over spread the Gospel to children through street theatre and play activities.

Starting in September, the base will run a 5-month Discipleship Training School (DTS) which is a longer mission experience for older young people. Chrissie will be the overall leader for this school running the administration and mentoring some of the young people through the school. Following 3 months in Seattle, the students will go to one of three countries for a two-month mission trip, returning for graduation in February.

Seminar Series

Notes from the seminar series in April are now online here.

SBC Football Club - League Cup Champions

For the first time in their history the Church football team played in the League Cup Final against Newgen at Stanhope Grove Recreation Ground, Stanhope Grove, Beckenham.

At half time, despite some excellent play, the score was nil all. The team went out for the second half full of enthusiasm and conceded a goal, but pulled back an equaliser before full time. The game then went to extra time, and the boys gave it everything they'd got, but by the end of extra time the score was still one all. Penalties. Up to five each. Nail biting stuff. And they won 4 - 3

Congratulations to the team!

Here the guys are, looking rather pleased with themselves!

Easter Sunday - Alive Today! - Jesus is alive today - the banners from Saturday's musical reminded us that today is Resurrection Day - Jesus is raised from the dead. Our Easter morning worship focussed on our reconciliation with God.

Easter Saturday - Children's Musical - Alive Today - The church enjoyed the "Alive Today" musical performed by our children. This raised funds for African Children's School Starter Kits - these are the essential school stationery that poor children cannot afford.

Good Friday Procession - About 200 people from the churches of Selsdon and Addington processed through the high street from St John's Church to Selsdon Baptist Church, following a united service at St John's. Posted 26//3/05

Carroty Wood 18th - 20th February about 20 of the young people spent a great weekend at Carroty Wood Centre, getting very muddy with Matt our youth pastor. Chris Priddy, our children's worker from last year was there too. Reports say that Matt's dancing needed to be seen to be believed. There was a 'most people people you can jump over competition'. There was a gig from "Last Day with Amy". Dave Simpson introduced everyone to the "Striding Jesus" and the "Shiny Jesus" and then the Real Jesus!

Some quotes from Tim Nichols -
- "yet again  it lived up to it's great expectations"
- "Assault course very entertaining as always - mud galore"
- "Delightful meals, great  entertainment on Saturday night with the cabaret"
- "4 hours sleep"
- "I had a blast and can't wait to go back."
