The Good, the Bad and the Bible

God, Creator of the Cosmic Dance

The Silhouette Theatre Company treated us to a fun evening on 19th March with their production of 'The Good, The Bad, and the Bible' at Addington Road.

A good number of people enjoyed the whirlwind presentation of the Bible from beginning to (almost) end. The 3-man company took us through Lucifer's expulsion from heaven, the creation and fall of man, Noah, Joseph, Moses and the prophets, to the life, death, resurrection and ascension of Jesus - all in 2 hours (including interval!).

Using drama, singing, puppets and with some audience participation the story of the ultimate triumph of Jesus over the Devil's schemes was presented in the style of the old 'mystery' plays which have been used for centuries to present eternal truths using everyday language and popular ways of communication.

Highlights included monkey impressions from Amy Hubbard, Thomas West and Mike Elcome; Alan Bedford as the donkey in the Nativity scene; - and the talking crows discussing the crucifixion.

The clever script brought in many elements of the biblical narrative - for example asking the local plumber to ensure that Pilate would have somewhere to wash his hands!

The actors switched between an amazing variety of roles and the pace never faltered.

A thoroughly entertaining evening with a deeper message behind the fun and laughter.
