Football Activities at Selsdon Baptist
Selsdon Baptist Church has had a senior football team
for a number of years, and we have had a number of successes in the
churches league we play in. The football team also has its own site at
http://www.selsdonbaptist.org.uk/football with up to date news of
matches or a
You
Tube page with video clips of matches. In addition we have had junior teams at various times.
Currently we have a 11-14 side which plays in the South London Churches
League.
Congratulations
to both our football teams
on reaching the Mike King Cup

South London Churches League
For the 2008-9 season we have joined this U14
(school years 7 - 9) league. We have a joint team with Emmanuel Church,
South Croydon, and Croham Road Baptist.
Of our two league games so far, we have won one
and lost one. The team is starting to work well together. Our recent
game against Crystal Palace we looked ragged at half time, being 5 - 1
down, but for the second half the boys worked as a team and clawed it
back to 5 - 4, with an equalizer looking very likely in the last few
minutes, but it was not quite to be.
Our team is playing in our new Red and Black strip.

Defensive moment, and our centre forward - "the Ferret"
Goalfest in Plumstead
In preparation for a joint Selsdon Baptist,
Emmanuel Church and Croham Road Baptist football team joining the South London Churches League
next season (2008-2009), we held a friendly with The Slade Church, Plumstead, on 14th June. The team (age range 11 - 14) had an exciting
7-a-side game, with 13 goals being scored. Unfortunately, we only scored
four of them! However, everyone enjoyed the game, and I thought we had
more control of the midfield. However, The Slade had some awesome long
shots, and we couldn't get the ball home enough.

Our new 7-11 Football team had a
stunning inaugural game against
Penge
Family Church. On an extremely windy Saturday afternoon in
March 2006 -
the goalposts had to pegged down to stop them blowing away - the
team had a very respectable 2-0 win, with both goals scored in
the first half. Contact
Roland if you want to join the team.

We had a great time cheering on England for the first
three qualifying matches for the 2006 World Cup on 10th June ,
15th June and 20th June, watching the match projected onto the big screen. Extra entertainments included
table football, X box, snacks etc.

Unfortunately England
didn't get through
to the semi-final of the World Cup so the match was not shown on the
large screen at SBC on Wednesday 5th July.
