Mike Elcome - Retrospective
Mike and Caroline Elcome and their three girls, Rebecca, Hannah and Abigail, moved to Selsdon in 1998 when Selsdon Baptist Church called Mike as our pastor.
We believed that Mike was God's minister for us at that time in the life of the church, and we have been blessed in so many ways by having Mike and the family here.
Mike soon endeared himself to the congregation with his approachable, caring nature and his great gifts of preaching, teaching and vision.
Mike has a great sense of humour and has always been ready to join in the fun of times like church weekend talent shows!
Under Mike's leadership, the church grew and became more involved in the community around us.
Mike steered us through challenges like refurbishing the sanctuary, defining our purposes in our Rainbow Vision and launching the winter 'Floating Shelter' at SBC, among many others.
Soon after Mike came to us he began leading a team ministry as various people joined the SBC staff.
Mike is a great encourager and always supported those who were stepping out in faith
to try something new. The establishing of a second congregation at Greenvale School
in 2007 was a significant undertaking in which Mike supported our then Minister-

For all at Selsdon Baptist Church, Mike has been there to support, love and pray with us during hard times and to celebrate with us in the good things God has done. Through all his ministry, Mike has been lovingly supported by Caroline and we are so thankful for all the care that Caroline has given to our church family too.
We shall miss them both enormously as they move away to Cambridgeshire and retirement but know that God will have more in store for them, and that another fellowship will welcome them where they can continue to use their special gifts in sharing God's love.
