Christmas Services
We had a range of Christmas activities this year, ranging from the Ignite Youth Service, the Nativity service on Christmas Eve for younger children, to Services on Christmas Day, Carol Singing around the Greenvale estate, a Gift Service, and the Selsdon Christmas Lights.
Though it was lovely to have snow, some of the planned SBC Christmas events were
affected by the weather and had to be cancelled or re-
The planned Christmas craft event at Greenvale school also had to be cancelled, as
were the final rehearsals for the Sunday Club's "Selsdon's Got Talent" presentation
on the morning of 19th December morning at Addington Road. But the service went ahead
anyway with children and leaders standing in and taking multiple roles -
The evening Community Carol service on 19th December was not as well attended as usual, but it was lovely to welcome guests from different areas of our local community. These included Paul Shaw from Selsdon Residents Association and Sharon Lidbury, chair of governors from Selsdon Primary School, both of whom read Bible passages in the service. Jasmine Singh, representing Contact, was unable to attend in person but contributed her reading by means of a recorded video message!
The Christmas Eve children's nativity at Addington Road saw a packed foyer and coffee lounge before the service as parents enjoyed coffee and mince pies while their children were creative with crayons, glue and glitter!
David Mayne, Mike Elcome and Mel King directed the numerous children in acting out the Christmas story, aided by Rob and Jo Lines with the puppets and Ro King and some of the young people providing music.
A fun time for all those attending!
As in recent years, we welcomed in Christmas Day with a midnight carol service at Addington Road led by David Mayne, and Christmas day services at both Addington Road and Greenvale.
The Christmas Day lunch had the highest number of guests yet and Kate Ashton and
her team in the kitchen did a splendid job in providing a delicious Christmas dinner
for around 30 guests and 15 helpers. Many others had helped with food preparation
and putting up decorations the previous day.
Diane Watts led our Boxing Day morning service at Addington Road and also the New Year's Eve Watchnight service, the second year we have held this service.
