Andy and Nicci Eyles, and Hayley Threader
On Sunday 22 November, we had the joy of seeing three baptisms in the morning service
at Addington Road . Andy and Nicci Eyles, and Hayley Threader -
Mike explained in his sermon how people on the first day of Pentecost were challenged
by God's 'B&B' -
After the candidates had spoken about their reasons for asking for baptism, they each went into the baptismal pool where they were baptised by Mike Elcome and Ro King. What a lovely and encouraging occasion.

The weekend of 13th / 14th June was special as we celebrated Baptism with two friends
in very different way. On Saturday Alison Grestock, who is part of our Greenvale
congregation, was baptised in the sea at Littlehampton by David Mayne. This was part
of the Greenvale congregations day-
The second baptism was on Sunday morning, where it was a joy to share 14 year old Jake's baptism. Jake is disabled, with cerebral palsy, so was unable to be immersed. The baptistry was partly uncovered, and a small bowl of water placed on a stand within it. This was then taken and used to baptise Jake. Although Jake has difficulty communicating, this was something he clearly wanted to do, and reminded us very strongly that baptism is a essentially a simple commitment to Jesus. At the close of the service, both Jake, and his parents Brian and Viv Sharp, were welcomed into membership of Selsdon Baptist Church.

On Sunday morning 20th September we celebrated with Pascale Evans as she was baptised. Pascale told us how she sees Jesus as her hero, and this was one of the reasons why she wanted to be baptised. Our student minister, Diane Watts spoke to us about Baptism is a choice that we make, just as Jesus made the choice to be baptised by John.

We were delighted to share in the baptism on 29th March, at the Ignite Cafe Church service, of Rachael and Sarah. They shared their testimony with us in an interview on the 'Ignite' sofa.
Rachael told us how she became a Christian last summer. Before that she had known Jesus 'in the background'. When she was asked what difference being a Christian made, she said that it helped her to be a better person and to stand up for her beliefs. She wanted to be baptised because God was calling her to the next level.
Sarah said that before she became a Christian she had known God for a while, but wasn't committed, didn't go to church and God was not a priority. In a difficult period of her life, she was invited to an evangelistic meeting and when the pastor invited those who wanted to be saved to raise their hands she felt moved to commit herself. Being a Christian has given her stability, she looks in the Bible for answers, and she tries to be Christ like and consistent. She wanted to be baptised to make a public declaration for Jesus. "He has been there for me, he deserved it and he died on the cross for me"

Rachael and Sarah were baptised by our youth pastor Ro King, and our associate minister David Mayne.

In his message our minister Mike Elcome pointed out that Baptism is "the promise made to God from a good conscience" and that Sarah and Rachael have committed themselves to live out that promise.

"I grew up going to church with my family but never knowing God. It was just something I did on a Sunday. This changed about a year after starting secondary school when I started getting panic attacks. The first was while in an assembly. Why it happened I don’t know, but it was something that was to take over my life. I ended up dreading and avoiding most situations. Most of my time was spent in my room. On two occasions I remember thinking I can’t live like this anymore. Thankfully I knew how much my parents loved me.
Over the years things started to improve. I worked when I could and began having a social life. During this time I met and married Neal and went on to have two daughters.
A year or so after Hannah was born I kept noticing Alpha posters and felt so strongly that I wanted to go. I went along on the first evening and during the talk felt the start of a panic attack. I ended up having to leave the room. Usually for me, to be in a situation where I’ve left I would not go back but I felt really strongly that I needed and wanted to be there. I went into the small group that evening and from then on was there every week. During this time I became a Christian.
I still have situations come up that I feel unable to cope with but God has made
so many things possible for me, including being a part of Greenvale, and being here
today to be baptised -
