Standing Announcements

These announcements are not time specific - they are ongoing information about things that are available, or asking you to do, or not do, certain things!

STAMPS: Please remember to save the stamps to help raise funds for Baptist Home Mission which supports struggling churches.  Thank you for your magnificent effort this year.  I have already passed on three carrier bags stuffed full which is a lot of stamps. Stamps can be left in the red box on the Mission Table .  Thank you  Kay Holman

PRE SCHOOL OUTDOORS EQUIPMENT NOT TO BE PLAYED WITH ON A SUNDAY MORNING: Please could parents ask children not to play in the outside area beyond the large hall/Lasers room as the play equipment is getting damaged, left out in the rain and then rusting. We appreciate your co-operation and would ask anyone who sees children outside to call them in in. Thank you!

COUNSELLING SERVICE: open to all and run by Family Christian Concern. Please see notice board in the Foyer for further details.

SAINSBURYS ACTIVE KIDS VOUCHERS: Elaine Funnell and Paul Burns will be pleased to receive these for pre school and our local scout group. Also Jo Wheeler for Brownies and Guides. Please leave in their pigeon holes.

EXPERIENCED CARE STAFF, domestic and kitchen staff required for Burrell Mead Residential Home in West Wickham.

Why not visit the CHURCH BOOKSTALL after the service for good quality second-hand books and greetings cards for sale. Proceeds go toward Church funds.

HOMEGROUP DETAILS:  If you would like to join a homegroup, leaflets giving up-to-date details of the homegroups currently meeting are available on the Welcome table.  Please take one.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:  The church website often mentions events at the church and people involved in them. If for privacy reasons you don't want your name mentioned or a photo to appear, you should email the webmaster, Alan Bedford ,  with your name (and a photo so that you can easily be identified).  You may still be inadvertently included in a crowd scene, but can be removed on request.  In addition, if you do not want you or your family's photograph to appear in INSight, our monthly magazine, please let the editor know at  

Re-cycling - Glass, cans and tins can now be recycled in the kitchen, in the cupboard next to the dishwasher, but MUST be rinsed clean first. Please refrain from putting plastic cups or any non-paper-based items into the paper recycling boxes. There have been numerous plastic cups found in the bags when recycled.

Church groups/committees meeting offsite  -  If you are holding a meeting, eg Sunday Club, Evangelism Committee, etc, in a home please let the office know so that it can be noted in the diary to avoid a clash of meetings.  (This does not apply to home groups.)

Activity Bags are available for toddlers to use and enjoy in the services, and are at the entrances of both Selsdon Baptist Church Addington Road and Greenvale.  Please return after use.

Communion Services - To help accommodate people with allergies we are willing to provide some gluten-free bread for our communion services, if you let us know in advance of your requirements. Please contact Theresa Nichols to arrange this.

Coffee after Church (Addington Road): When going for coffee after the morning service it would be helpful if everyone could use the large square space in the foyer, or the Coffee Lounge, to chat, so that the  area between the door out of the sanctuary and the exit is kept free.  Thank you.

ROAD SAFETY  -  Please take care on the church drive – remember that it is used by both pedestrians and cars bringing disabled people to church. Keep a lookout for yourselves and your children.

CHRISTMAS LUNCH: I would love to hear from anyone who would be willing to lead the entertainment for our guests on Christmas day. Please also let me know if you are able to help with transport either, bringing guests here for 12 noon or by taking them home at 3.30pm. Caroline Hubbard

GOLF BALLS TO FUNDRAISE: I am  offering golfers and theIr buddies a great deal, with all the proceeds going to either my favourite two charities (Water Aid and Toybox, a charity for street children in Guatemala etc) or towards the SBC young people's project to Uganda in July 2015 (the choice is yours). This leaves plenty of time to think of golf balls for birthday or Christmas gifts! PREVENTION OF MODERN SLAVERY IN CROYDON: on Friday 17 October 09.30 - 15.30  at Croydon Conference Centre, Surrey Street CR0 1RG. This conference is free to people from faith groups and charities and is being addressed by representatives from; the Metropolitan Police, the Local Authority, the Home Office, Parliament, Croydon Community Against Trafficking and Barnardos Advocacy Service. Develop your understanding. Hear about recent developments in the fight. Consider our role. See foyer noticeboard for further details and information on Art Exhibition and Music event, taking place the same week.

SINGERS: As there are many celebrations for the Centenary of the First World War, we would like to sing 'A Gaelic Blessing' set to music by John Rutter at the service on Remembrance Sunday, November 9 at 10.30am.  Practices would be on Thursdays October 30 and November 6 from 8-9pm in the Sanctuary. CHRISTMAS LUNCH: We are delighted  that Pat Hebden has agreed to be host/co-ordinator alongside our cook  Magda  on Christmas day, Please let Caroline know if you are able to help by also attending, by driving guests or help clear away at the end.

ALPHA is in progress at the jubilee Cafe on Wednesdays. There is the opportunity to pray in the small room at Jubilee Cafe from 7pm on Alpha evenings on a come and go basis.

MONDAY ROCK SOLID: Adrian is looking to recruit more volunteers on a Monday 4-5.30pm. Please chat to him if you can help. Also Karen Crossley is looking for more helpers for the 11-14 yrs Rock Solid Sunday group. Please let us know if you can help, not leading but supporting the leader!

CHURCH FRONTAGE/VISIBILITY: Sylvia Boyes has offered to lead a small focus group to canvass people's views and to explore possible options with the object of presenting our thoughts to the diaconate. STITCH'N'TIME: the group met Oct 1st in the coffee lounge 10.30-12 30. Please invite anyone interested in handicrafts to join us. We particularly invite those interested in learning to knit to join us over the next  few months. Dates: Oct 1st, November 5th and December 3rd.

ADVANCE NOTICE OF DATE: Purley Baptist Church will be holding a course to help people planning to retire or who have recently retired on Saturday,  1 November 2014 which will be led by Roger Hitchings.  The course will run from 10.00 a.m. - 3 p.m. and will include lunch, tea and coffee at a cost of £8 per head. Prayer Diary for October now available

OUR MASTER'S  VOICE: When you sense God speaking to you a word of guidance, help, encouragement, assurance etc., if it is not confidential and is suitable for sharing, just fill one of the cards in the foyer or at GV, for display in the Prayer Room. This will be an encouragement to the fellowship as it demonstrates God's interest and concern for His people. It may be a scripture, a thought, a vision, a saying a verse of a song or even a prompting or answer to prayer. The cards will be displayed for one month from the date on the front as an indication of the way God is working amongst us.

PARISH NURSING Chatterbox  community social group 9.30 - meets in the coffee lounge 2nd Weds of month, Sunbeams/toddler group - Parish Nurse attends 2nd Weds of month in term time.

E3 YOUTH HOMEGROUP: - is every other week (at Colin and Sally-ann Jackson's House) - E3 Home-group for Rocksolid and Gravity, 7:30 until 9:00 puddings provided

THURSDAY MORNING GROUP: Thursday’s at 10:00. All are welcome.

COME AND JOIN THE TODDLER TEAM! : We would love to expand and develop the work of the Mum's and Toddlers group that meet each Wednesday and Thursday morning in the church. It's a brilliant opportunity to meet people living in Selsdon.  If you think that you would be able to join the team we would love to talk to you.  Please see Hilary West, Nicci Eyles, Marilyn Newland or Diane.

ALPHA "HOLY SPIRIT DAY" HELP REQUIRED: Saturday 8th November-please see Diane if you would be able to help with some or all of the day, or with serving lunch!

SHOEBOX APPEAL: Please do fill your shoe box with gifts for a child and bring to Church by Sunday November 9th (Remembrance parade) if you are able please donate £3 per box for shipping costs. The easiest way is online, click the donate online button and print your barcode to go in the shoe box. The leaflets explain the ideal gift selection, or do look online.
