Standing Announcements

These announcements are not time specific - they are ongoing information about things that are available, or asking you to do, or not do, certain things!

STAMPS: Please remember to save the stamps to help raise funds for Baptist Home Mission which supports struggling churches.  Thank you for your magnificent effort this year.  I have already passed on three carrier bags stuffed full which is a lot of stamps. Stamps can be left in the red box on the Mission Table .  Thank you  Kay Holman


PRE SCHOOL OUTDOORS EQUIPMENT NOT TO BE PLAYED WITH ON A SUNDAY MORNING: Please could parents ask children not to play in the outside area beyond the large hall/Lasers room as the play equipment is getting damaged, left out in the rain and then rusting. We appreciate your co-operation and would ask anyone who sees children outside to call them in in. Thank you!


COUNSELLING SERVICE: open to all and run by Family Christian Concern. Please see notice board in the Foyer for further details.


SAINSBURYS ACTIVE KIDS VOUCHERS: Elaine Funnell and Paul Burns will be pleased to receive these for pre school and our local scout group. Also Jo Wheeler for Brownies and Guides. Please leave in their pigeon holes.


EXPERIENCED CARE STAFF, domestic and kitchen staff required for Burrell Mead Residential Home in West Wickham.


Why not visit the CHURCH BOOKSTALL after the service for good quality second-hand books and greetings cards for sale. Proceeds go toward Church funds.


HOMEGROUP DETAILS:  If you would like to join a homegroup, leaflets giving up-to-date details of the homegroups currently meeting are available on the Welcome table.  Please take one.


IMPORTANT INFORMATION:  The church website often mentions events at the church and people involved in them. If for privacy reasons you don't want your name mentioned or a photo to appear, you should email the webmaster, Alan Bedford, with your name (and a photo so that you can easily be identified).  You may still be inadvertently included in a crowd scene, but can be removed on request.  In addition, if you do not want you or your family's photograph to appear in INSight, our monthly magazine, please let the editor know at


Re-cycling - Glass, cans and tins can now be recycled in the kitchen, in the cupboard next to the dishwasher, but MUST be rinsed clean first. Please refrain from putting plastic cups or any non-paper-based items into the paper recycling boxes. There have been numerous plastic cups found in the bags when recycled.


Church groups/committees meeting offsite  -  If you are holding a meeting, eg Sunday Club, Evangelism Committee, etc, in a home please let the office know so that it can be noted in the diary to avoid a clash of meetings.  (This does not apply to home groups.)


Activity Bags are available for toddlers to use and enjoy in the services, and are at the entrances of both Selsdon Baptist Church Addington Road and Greenvale.  Please return after use.


Communion Services - To help accommodate people with allergies we are willing to provide some gluten-free bread for our communion services, if you let us know in advance of your requirements. Please contact Theresa Nichols to arrange this.


Coffee after Church (Addington Road): When going for coffee after the morning service it would be helpful if everyone could use the large square space in the foyer, or the Coffee Lounge, to chat, so that the  area between the door out of the sanctuary and the exit is kept free.  Thank you.


ROAD SAFETY  -  Please take care on the church drive – remember that it is used by both pedestrians and cars bringing disabled people to church. Keep a lookout for yourselves and your children.

CHURCH FRONTAGE/VISIBILITY: Sylvia Boyes has offered to lead a small focus group to canvass people's views and to explore possible options with the object of presenting our thoughts to the diaconate. UGANDA MISSION TRIP: Please could anyone who intends to come on the Uganda mission trip fill in the form and pay the deposit by the 4th of October as after this date I will no longer be able to accommodate you. Adrian

 

24 HOUR PRAYER EVENT: running from 9 00am Friday October 3rd until our prayer meeting Saturday morning 8 00-9 00am. Please sign against a 1 hour slot on the sheet in the foyer or email with your preferred time.


CHRISTMAS LUNCH: We are delighted Magda has volunteered to head up the cooking on Christmas day again, we would now like someone to take on responsibility of the admin/ be co-ordinator on the day. Caroline will do much of the admin before the event but this role does need someone who will be present on Christmas day! Please consider prayerfully if this could be you?!


CHORAL, VOCAL, INSTRUMENTAL AND TECHNICAL CONFERENCE: Sat 4 Oct 9 30am St Mary's Magdalene's Addiscombe. A group from SBC hope to attend please see foyer for further info. This looks really good!


STITCH'N'TIME: the group will meet Oct 1st in the coffee lounge 10.30-12 30. Please invite anyone interested in handicrafts to join us. We particularly invite those interested in learning to knit to join us over the next  few months. Dates: Oct 1st, November 5th and December 3rd.

SHINE NIGHT MARATHON: to help Cancer Research UK Phil Mazur  and Susie and David Foster are all walking 26.2 miles through the night in London on 27th September to raise money for Cancer Research.


Each year, around 1,600 children are diagnosed with cancer in the UK. Thanks to major advances in treatment, around three-quarters of children with cancer are now successfully treated. But the disease claims around 250 lives every year, so Cancer Research UK's groundbreaking work must continue.

Sleep can wait. Beating cancer can't.

ADVANCE NOTICE OF DATE: Purley Baptist Church will be holding a course to help people planning to retire or who have recently retired on Saturday,  1 November 2014 which will be led by Roger Hitchings.  The course will run from 10.00 a.m. - 3 p.m. and will include lunch, tea and coffee at a cost of £8 per head. Prayer Diary for October now available


OUR MASTER'S  VOICE: When you sense God speaking to you a word of guidance, help, encouragement, assurance etc., if it is not confidential and is suitable for sharing, just fill one of the cards in the foyer or at GV, for display in the Prayer Room. This will be an encouragement to the fellowship as it demonstrates God's interest and concern for His people. It may be a scripture, a thought, a vision, a saying a verse of a song or even a prompting or answer to prayer. The cards will be displayed for one month from the date on the front as an indication of the way God is working amongst us.


PARISH NURSING Chatterbox  community social group 9.30 - 11.am meets in the coffee lounge 2nd Weds of month, Sunbeams/toddler group - Parish Nurse attends 2nd Weds of month in term time.


E3 YOUTH HOMEGROUP: - is every other week (at Colin and Sally-ann Jackson's House) - E3 Home-group for Rocksolid and Gravity, 7:30 until 9:00 puddings provided


THURSDAY MORNING GROUP: Thursday’s at 10:00. All are welcome.

MINUTES: Printed copies of the minutes of the September church meeting are available for those members not on email.


MONDAY ROCK SOLID: Adrian is looking to recruit more volunteers on a Monday 4-5.30pm. Please chat to him if you can help. Also Karen Crossley is looking for more helpers for the 11-14 yrs Rock Solid Sunday group. Please let us know if you can help, not leading but supporting the leader!


PILGRIM'S PROGRESS: part 1 'The Bog Misery' is at 3pm on Tuesday 7th October in the Lounge. This series should help us all to understand many of the problems we face in our Christian lives. It is open to anyone who is seeking to know more about the faith in a fun environment with drama, quiz, story reading and opportunity to share our own experiences over a cup of tea. It will be a help to those planning if you sign up on the green sheet in the Foyer. Come and meet Pilgrim, who like all of us, gets bogged down at times."

UGANDA MEETING: All those involved in the mission trip are encouraged to come to a meeting on Wednesday 8th October 7-8pm. Gravity social will start later at 8 00pm.
