Standing Announcements

These announcements are not time specific - they are ongoing information about things that are available, or asking you to do, or not do, certain things!

STAMPS: Please remember to save the stamps to help raise funds for Baptist Home Mission which supports struggling churches.  Thank you for your magnificent effort this year.  I have already passed on three carrier bags stuffed full which is a lot of stamps. Stamps can be left in the red box on the Mission Table .  Thank you  Kay Holman

PRE SCHOOL OUTDOORS EQUIPMENT NOT TO BE PLAYED WITH ON A SUNDAY MORNING: Please could parents ask children not to play in the outside area beyond the large hall/Lasers room as the play equipment is getting damaged, left out in the rain and then rusting. We appreciate your co-operation and would ask anyone who sees children outside to call them in in. Thank you!

COUNSELLING SERVICE: open to all and run by Family Christian Concern. Please see notice board in the Foyer for further details.

SAINSBURYS ACTIVE KIDS VOUCHERS: Elaine Funnell and Paul Burns will be pleased to receive these for pre school and our local scout group. Also Jo Wheeler for Brownies and Guides. Please leave in their pigeon holes.

EXPERIENCED CARE STAFF, domestic and kitchen staff required for Burrell Mead Residential Home in West Wickham.

Why not visit the CHURCH BOOKSTALL after the service for good quality second-hand books and greetings cards for sale. Proceeds go toward Church funds.

HOMEGROUP DETAILS:  If you would like to join a homegroup, leaflets giving up-to-date details of the homegroups currently meeting are available on the Welcome table.  Please take one.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:  The church website often mentions events at the church and people involved in them. If for privacy reasons you don't want your name mentioned or a photo to appear, you should email the webmaster, Alan Bedford ,  with your name (and a photo so that you can easily be identified).  You may still be inadvertently included in a crowd scene, but can be removed on request.  In addition, if you do not want you or your family's photograph to appear in INSight, our monthly magazine, please let the editor know at  

Re-cycling - Glass, cans and tins can now be recycled in the kitchen, in the cupboard next to the dishwasher, but MUST be rinsed clean first. Please refrain from putting plastic cups or any non-paper-based items into the paper recycling boxes. There have been numerous plastic cups found in the bags when recycled.

Church groups/committees meeting offsite  -  If you are holding a meeting, eg Sunday Club, Evangelism Committee, etc, in a home please let the office know so that it can be noted in the diary to avoid a clash of meetings.  (This does not apply to home groups.)

Activity Bags are available for toddlers to use and enjoy in the services, and are at the entrances of both Selsdon Baptist Church Addington Road and Greenvale.  Please return after use.

Communion Services - To help accommodate people with allergies we are willing to provide some gluten-free bread for our communion services, if you let us know in advance of your requirements. Please contact Theresa Nichols to arrange this.

Coffee after Church (Addington Road): When going for coffee after the morning service it would be helpful if everyone could use the large square space in the foyer, or the Coffee Lounge, to chat, so that the  area between the door out of the sanctuary and the exit is kept free.  Thank you.

ROAD SAFETY  -  Please take care on the church drive – remember that it is used by both pedestrians and cars bringing disabled people to church. Keep a lookout for yourselves and your children.

Inspire  Copies of this magazine are available for £2 per year, contact the church office . The website at carries stacks more news stories, reviews, events, information, exclusive online competitions and features, and they’re updated on a daily basis.

Announcements - Current

SYNCING WITH GOD: Thank you to Magda who has volunteered to co-ordinate lunch for 7th February. If you would like to help peel veg on the Friday afternoon for a hearty broth please speak to Magda direct. Magda would also like help around 9 am at Church to make sandwiches.

The Prayer meeting will run as usual on 7 February and there will be coffee and pastries afterwards. We want to make refreshments as simple as possible so that no-one misses out on hearing Joe Davis speak. We would however like to serve 11am coffee and tea with biscuits in the afternoon. Please let Caroline or Diane know if you can prepare and serve drinks at either slot.

FEBRUARY INSIGHT:  The magazine will be available on Sunday, 1 February.  If you have read/heard/seen anything that you think your friends in the congregation might find interesting/amusing/thought-provoking, why not put it in for the next magazine?  We can format it and find suitable graphics for you - all we need are the words.  REMEMBER: the magazine will be as interesting as the articles YOU contribute.  Please send them to or leave in the church office and let me know.  Thank you.  Eleanor.

EARLY NOTICE!: New Wine 'Blaze' Women's Day - Sat 14th March 2015 at Westminster Central Hall, 9.30-4.30. A day of 'fantastic worship, powerful talks and plenty of time for ministry and meeting with God'. If you are interested, please speak to Meryl or Hilary W.

POSTAGE STAMPS: Please remember to save the  stamps from your mail and cards as they are used to raise valuable funds for Baptist Home Mission.  A total of over £5000 has been raised so far this year and we have forwarded a large quantity of stamps and collectibles towards this.  You can either put your stamps in the red box on the Mission Table or hand them directly to me. Absolutely any postage stamp is welcome and also jewellery, medals, Dinkie/Corgi toys and foreign currency even if it is not in current tender. Thank you. Kay

MUSIC MAGPIE: This is a fundraising opportunity for Uganda, please place your unwanted CDs, DVDs, electronic good and mobiles in the box in the foyer.

PARENTING COURSE AT SBC: ( weekly from Monday January 26th 2015) An informal 6- session course for parents and carers of children 0-5 years.  If you would be interested in: attending the course, helping with refreshments supporting a crèche please see Hilary W   

SIGN UP TO HELP AT ETC: Plans are underway for the youth event in February half term. Please see the time slots where help is needed 19th and 20th Feb 12-4pm and 7-9pm. Help is needed in the  rooms, with registration, security and committing to prayer.

FLOWER CALENDAR: the 2015 calendar for donating towards the Church flowers is now on the board in the foyer. Please put your name against your preferred date. New donators are most welcome and thank you for all the donations this year. Joy Harris

COME AND JOIN THE TODDLER TEAM! : We would love to expand and develop the work of the Mum's and Toddlers group that meet each Wednesday and Thursday morning in the church. It's a brilliant opportunity to meet people living in Selsdon.  If you think that you would be able to join the team we would love to talk to you.  Please see Hilary West, Nicci Eyles, Marilyn Newland or Diane.

Prayer Diary for January now available

OUR MASTER'S  VOICE: When you sense God speaking to you a word of guidance, help, encouragement, assurance etc., if it is not confidential and is suitable for sharing, just fill one of the cards in the foyer or at GV, for display in the Prayer Room. This will be an encouragement to the fellowship as it demonstrates God's interest and concern for His people. It may be a scripture, a thought, a vision, a saying a verse of a song or even a prompting or answer to prayer. The cards will be displayed for one month from the date on the front as an indication of the way God is working amongst us.

PARISH NURSING Chatterbox  community social group 9.30 - meets in the coffee lounge 2nd Weds of month, Sunbeams/toddler group - Parish Nurse attends 2nd Weds of month in term time.

E3 YOUTH HOMEGROUP: - is every other week - E3 Home-group for Rocksolid and Gravity, 7:30 until 9:00

THURSDAY MORNING GROUP: Thursday’s at 10:00. All are welcome.

SHELTER: We still need someone to help with the cleaning on Friday 6th March and Friday 13th March. This is from 7:15 a.m. till about 8:15 a.m. We need one more chef/home group to cook a meal on Thursday evening 26th March. Otherwise, the rota is full and we thank everyone who has offered their help.

BOOK RECOMMENDATION: Last year our book group read "Celebration of Discipline" by Richard Foster. A few of us thought it would be a good idea to read it again, and spend more time on it - a month per chapter to be precise (12 disciplines = one year). If anyone else would like to join us on the journey, contact Magda.

LENT PRAYER WALK: around London is taking place this year. The aim is to focus prayer on the capital and on our nation. Following the route of the London LOOP, 15 walks will take place daily, Monday to Friday, starting on Monday 9th March. ARE YOU LOOKING FOR A JOB?: A new Ignition job search course, designed to help you find a satisfying job, starts soon at Chatsworth Baptist Church, West Norwood, SE27 9HN.  

The Ignition course is for anyone who is trying, or thinking of trying, to get a job - whether unemployed or employed.  

The course covers everything from identifying your skills, understanding the employer's perspective, learning the 'head, hands and heart' concept to help demonstrate you are the right person for the job, to techniques for job applications and interviews.

If you, or anyone you know, would be interested in coming to the seven session course, which is running on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings 27 and 28 January and 3, 4, 10, 11 and 17 February from 7.00 to 9.30pm, please contact . The course is free and open to all.
