Standing Announcements

These announcements are not time specific - they are ongoing information about things that are available, or asking you to do, or not do, certain things!

YourSpace Counselling Service

This is an affordable confidential counselling service, in a safe and relaxed environment, offered by one of our members.

We are based in Selsdon Baptist Church, on Addington Road, Selsdon.

Your first assessment appointment is free. The service is then on a donation basis, with a suggested amount of £10 - £25 per 50 minute session, depending on income.

Appointments are available mornings and evenings.

Call Jane for an initial appointment: 07561 869 620

STAMPS: Please remember to save the stamps to help raise funds for Baptist Home Mission which supports struggling churches.  Thank you for your magnificent effort this year.  I have already passed on three carrier bags stuffed full which is a lot of stamps. Stamps can be left in the red box on the Mission Table .  Thank you  Kay Holman

PRE SCHOOL OUTDOORS EQUIPMENT NOT TO BE PLAYED WITH ON A SUNDAY MORNING: Please could parents ask children not to play in the outside area beyond the large hall/Lasers room as the play equipment is getting damaged, left out in the rain and then rusting. We appreciate your co-operation and would ask anyone who sees children outside to call them in in. Thank you!

COUNSELLING SERVICE: open to all and run by Family Christian Concern. Please see notice board in the Foyer for further details.

SAINSBURYS ACTIVE KIDS VOUCHERS: Elaine Funnell and Paul Burns will be pleased to receive these for pre school and our local scout group. Also Jo Wheeler for Brownies and Guides. Please leave in their pigeon holes.

EXPERIENCED CARE STAFF, domestic and kitchen staff required for Burrell Mead Residential Home in West Wickham.

Why not visit the CHURCH BOOKSTALL after the service for good quality second-hand books and greetings cards for sale. Proceeds go toward Church funds.

HOMEGROUP DETAILS:  If you would like to join a homegroup, leaflets giving up-to-date details of the homegroups currently meeting are available on the Welcome table.  Please take one.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:  The church website often mentions events at the church and people involved in them. If for privacy reasons you don't want your name mentioned or a photo to appear, you should email the webmaster, Alan Bedford ,  with your name (and a photo so that you can easily be identified).  You may still be inadvertently included in a crowd scene, but can be removed on request.  In addition, if you do not want you or your family's photograph to appear in INSight, our monthly magazine, please let the editor know at

Re-cycling - Glass, cans and tins can now be recycled in the kitchen, in the cupboard next to the dishwasher, but MUST be rinsed clean first. Please refrain from putting plastic cups or any non-paper-based items into the paper recycling boxes. There have been numerous plastic cups found in the bags when recycled.

Church groups/committees meeting offsite  -  If you are holding a meeting, eg Sunday Club, Evangelism Committee, etc, in a home please let the office know so that it can be noted in the diary to avoid a clash of meetings.  (This does not apply to home groups.)

Activity Bags are available for toddlers to use and enjoy in the services, and are at the entrances.  Please return after use.

Communion Services - To help accommodate people with allergies we are willing to provide some gluten-free bread for our communion services, if you let us know in advance of your requirements. Please contact Theresa Nichols to arrange this.

Coffee after Church (Addington Road): When going for coffee after the morning service it would be helpful if everyone could use the large square space in the foyer, or the Coffee Lounge, to chat, so that the  area between the door out of the sanctuary and the exit is kept free.  Thank you.

ROAD SAFETY  -  Please take care on the church drive – remember that it is used by both pedestrians and cars bringing disabled people to church. Keep a lookout for yourselves and your children.

Inspire  Copies of this magazine are available for £2 per year, contact the church office . The website at www.inspiremagazine.org.uk carries stacks more news stories, reviews, events, information, exclusive online competitions and features, and they’re updated on a daily basis.

With thanks Hilary Fife

WORKOUT OPPORTUNITY!:In preparation for the building work at 153 Addington Road, we need to clear the overgrown area between the church and the house next door. If you have cutters, saws, strong shoes and gloves, some energy and can spare a couple of hours - we can give you some useful exercise! If you can get together a small group to work with you that would be brilliant. Offers of help to Theresa Nichols or Brian Reeves please. Brian can give you more details of the work needed.

MINCE PIES AND HOT DRINKS: It is tradition to serve refreshments after the evening Carol Service  on December 18th. Please let Theresa know if you are willing to co-ordinate this year.

ADVANCE NOTICES: Our mums' Homegroup is arranging a special Coffee Morning for all ladies on Saturday, 11 MARCH, 2017, at our church.  The speaker will be Fiona Castle. She was married to the late Roy Castle, who was a tv personality awhile ago.  Fiona has a great story to tell.  She was a ballet dancer and had to deal with being married to a 'famous' person, while bringing up a family.  It wasn't easy!  Come and enjoy coffee and cakes and listen to a great speaker!  Meryl

JONNY BOSTON (a well-known saxophonist from Amsterdam) and his band will be coming to our church again on SATURDAY, 1 April, 2017, for another inspiring evening of Gospel and Jazz!

SOUL SYMPHONY CHOIR: Symphony of Soulful Voices on Saturday 17 December at 7 pm at SBC Ticket price £10   EARLY BIRD RATE £8 (available until 14 November) Email:

Fundraising for charity Nightwatch who are caring for homeless people in Croydon. Several members of our congregation are performing!

SELSDON GAZETTE: imminent vacancy in the editors chair at the Selsdon Gazette.  If we do not find a replacement for Saira soon, it seems quite possible that the December issue will be the last in its present format and that it will likely have to stop completely in the new year. The editor needs no special journalistic skills: they need to be computer literate (mainly in WORD) and available around the third week of each month to put the copy in order and send it to the printer and then to be available to proof-read the edition in the early days of the issue month.  They are provided with a mobile phone ( call expenses refunded) and would be supported, of course, by the SRA at all times. Sheila Childs and Linda Morris

VOICE MAGAZINE for Winter 2016 from Feba

is now available from the GAT table in the vestibule.  Read about broadcast media bringing healing and transformation in the Middle East, Sierra Leone and many other areas.

COFFEE ROTA: Every two months it is increasingly difficult to fill the dates for Sunday morning coffee as over the last year we have lost six couples. Unless the present volunteers are asked to do it more frequently the only alternative will be to have  some Sundays when coffee will not be available. If anyone could help, even occasionally, that would be really appreciated and we would love to hear from you Alan and Sheila Thirkell  0208 657 5128

FESTIVAL OF CHRISTMAS TREES: St John's is organising this weekend event on December 10th and 11th for the local community. We are looking for a volunteer to decorate or create a tree to represent SBC. Please let Theresa know if this is something you can help with or you would like to take on. In recent years St Mary's Church in Purley oaks Road have held a similar event and it has attracted many visitors and a lot of interest.

CHURCH FLOWERS: We are very grateful to those who donate towards our flowers each week.

FLOWER CALENDAR: The 2017 calendar for donating flowers is now on the board in the vestibule. Please put your name against the date you would like to donate for. Many thanks for past donations!

HOLIDAY @ HOME 2017 is planned to run from July 31 -August 6. If you are one of our regular volunteers, please make a note of the dates now. Thank you.

PLEASE DO NOT FORGET: to save any postage stamps (UK or overseas) from Christmas cards and parcels.  They can all be used to raise funds for Baptist Home Mission and enable small churches in the U.K.to continue to remain open in needy areas.  Sometimes churches are unable to afford maintenance on their buildings or to organise outreach projects in the local area to serve their local community.  Last year over £6000 was raised from stamps etc. Please put your stamps into the red box on the Mission table in the foyer or hand them directly to me.  Thank you so much.  Kay Holman.

CHRISTMAS PUBLICITY: If you have signed up to deliver publicity this year, please collect your bundle next week and deliver anytime between12th &16th December. There are still roads we need covering so please look today or email Caroline if you can help!
