Standing Announcements

These announcements are not time specific - they are ongoing information about things that are available, or asking you to do, or not do, certain things!

STAMPS: Please remember to save the stamps to help raise funds for Baptist Home Mission which supports struggling churches.  Thank you for your magnificent effort this year.  I have already passed on three carrier bags stuffed full which is a lot of stamps. Stamps can be left in the red box on the Mission Table .  Thank you  Kay Holman

PRE SCHOOL OUTDOORS EQUIPMENT NOT TO BE PLAYED WITH ON A SUNDAY MORNING: Please could parents ask children not to play in the outside area beyond the large hall/Lasers room as the play equipment is getting damaged, left out in the rain and then rusting. We appreciate your co-operation and would ask anyone who sees children outside to call them in in. Thank you!

COUNSELLING SERVICE: open to all and run by Family Christian Concern. Please see notice board in the Foyer for further details.

SAINSBURYS ACTIVE KIDS VOUCHERS: Elaine Funnell and Paul Burns will be pleased to receive these for pre school and our local scout group. Also Jo Wheeler for Brownies and Guides. Please leave in their pigeon holes.

EXPERIENCED CARE STAFF, domestic and kitchen staff required for Burrell Mead Residential Home in West Wickham.

Why not visit the CHURCH BOOKSTALL after the service for good quality second-hand books and greetings cards for sale. Proceeds go toward Church funds.

HOMEGROUP DETAILS:  If you would like to join a homegroup, leaflets giving up-to-date details of the homegroups currently meeting are available on the Welcome table.  Please take one.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:  The church website often mentions events at the church and people involved in them. If for privacy reasons you don't want your name mentioned or a photo to appear, you should email the webmaster, Alan Bedford ,  with your name (and a photo so that you can easily be identified).  You may still be inadvertently included in a crowd scene, but can be removed on request.  In addition, if you do not want you or your family's photograph to appear in INSight, our monthly magazine, please let the editor know at

Re-cycling - Glass, cans and tins can now be recycled in the kitchen, in the cupboard next to the dishwasher, but MUST be rinsed clean first. Please refrain from putting plastic cups or any non-paper-based items into the paper recycling boxes. There have been numerous plastic cups found in the bags when recycled.

Church groups/committees meeting offsite  -  If you are holding a meeting, eg Sunday Club, Evangelism Committee, etc, in a home please let the office know so that it can be noted in the diary to avoid a clash of meetings.  (This does not apply to home groups.)

Activity Bags are available for toddlers to use and enjoy in the services, and are at the entrances.  Please return after use.

Communion Services - To help accommodate people with allergies we are willing to provide some gluten-free bread for our communion services, if you let us know in advance of your requirements. Please contact Theresa Nichols to arrange this.

Coffee after Church (Addington Road): When going for coffee after the morning service it would be helpful if everyone could use the large square space in the foyer, or the Coffee Lounge, to chat, so that the  area between the door out of the sanctuary and the exit is kept free.  Thank you.

ROAD SAFETY  -  Please take care on the church drive – remember that it is used by both pedestrians and cars bringing disabled people to church. Keep a lookout for yourselves and your children.

Inspire  Copies of this magazine are available for £2 per year, contact the church office . The website at carries stacks more news stories, reviews, events, information, exclusive online competitions and features, and they’re updated on a daily basis.

THANK YOU: for all your kind messages and cards for John. Elizabeth and John Veasey

FRIENDS OF SELSDON PRIMARY SCHOOL: are thrilled to announce that tickets are now on sale for our first ever FIREWORKS DISPLAY. Advance tickets are cheaper than on the gate and you can either buy them in the school office or online here

CROYDON CHURCHES FLOATING SHELTER: have been successful in being chosen as one of the groups which will be featured inside the Croydon Advertiser 'Heart of the Community' supplement in the issue for week commencing 30th September. Readers will be invited to vote for their favourite community group by way of voting coupons in issues of the Advertiser for weeks 30th September, 7th and 14th October. The 20 groups with the highest number of public votes will go forward to a judging panel who will decide who will win a share of the £8,000 prize money and/or a year of editorial support. If you purchase the Croydon Advertiser, please complete the coupons quoting CCFS's four digit code (which will be shown in the supplement) and deposit in the box in the foyer which will be available until Thursday 20th October.

FESTIVAL OF CHRISTMAS TREES: St John's is organising this weekend event on December 10th and 11th for the local community. We are looking for a volunteer to decorate or create a tree to represent SBC. Please let Theresa know if this is something you can help with or you would like to take on. In recent years St Mary's Church in Purley oaks Road have held a similar event and it has attracted many visitors and a lot of interest.

CHURCH FLOWERS: We are very grateful to those who donate towards our flowers each week.

FLOWER CALENDAR: The 2017 calendar for donating flowers is now on the board in the vestibule. Please put your name against the date you would like to donate for. Many thanks for past donations!

GILLIAN SPRY BAPTISM: on 16th October at 4.00pm at Sanderstead Evangelical Church (formerly Mitchley chapel) 82 Limpsfield Road, CR2 9EB. Everyone is welcome. Refreshments will be served after the service.  Please let Gillian know for catering purposes. , Tel 0208 657 5723, mob 07404 830559

CHRISTMAS DAY LUNCH: Pat and John have volunteered to cook again on Christmas Day so we are looking for a team of volunteers who will be willing to assist on the day, welcoming, helping guests, serving food and washing up after the lunch. Please let Caroline know if you would like to help this year. It is a very rewarding experience.

OCTOBER INSIGHT:  The deadline for articles etc for the October edition of INSight was Wednesday, 21 September.  The magazine is available. Please send future contributions to or leave in the church office and let me know.  Regretfully, late items cannot be included.  Thank you.  Eleanor.

HOLIDAY @ HOME 2017 is planned to run from July 31 -August 6. If you are one of our regular volunteers, please make a note of the dates now. Thank you.

HELP NEEDED: following our very successful Holiday at Home, we have people who would like to come to other 'Seniors' events, especially T@3. If you may be able to, even occasionally, help me with transport for our guests on the 4th Wednesday afternoon of each month, please contact me. Thanks Ros Wallis.

PLEASE DO NOT FORGET: to save any postage stamps (UK or overseas) from Christmas cards and parcels.  They can all be used to raise funds for Baptist Home Mission and enable small churches in the continue to remain open in needy areas.  Sometimes churches are unable to afford maintenance on their buildings or to organise outreach projects in the local area to serve their local community.  Last year over £6000 was raised from stamps etc. Please put your stamps into the red box on the Mission table in the foyer or hand them directly to me.  Thank you so much.  Kay Holman.

STUDY NOTES: following on from today's service; The Holy Spirit and truth are available on the table in the foyer. There are also a few copies left from last week.

WOODEN TABLE AVAILABLE: The table that used to be in the entrance area is no longer required and available to anyone who would like to 'upcycle' it. It is in the coffee lounge for viewing. Please note there is a plaque on it that we are happy to remove and archive and note the table has 2 drawers accessed from the back of the table. If you are interested, please speak to Theresa.

BIBLE SOCIETY WALK: A sincere "Thank You" to those who sponsored the walkers on the recent walk. So far a wonderful total of £670 has been raised for Refugees in Jordan. If you still have not paid your pledged sponsor money, prompt payment to  Kim Wright or Mike Potts would be appreciated. Barbara Burns

COFFEE ROTA: Every two months it is increasingly difficult to fill the dates for Sunday morning coffee as over the last year we have lost six couples. Unless the present volunteers are asked to do it more frequently the only alternative will be to have  some Sundays when coffee will not be available. If anyone could help, even occasionally, that would be really appreciated and we would love to hear from you Alan and Sheila Thirkell  0208 657 5128
