DIANE WATTS:  Diane's Ordination to Christian Ministry will take place on Sunday 3 October at Croham Road BC, at 10 30 am, followed by lunch.  Her Induction to the Ministry at Selsdon Baptist Church will take place on Sunday 3 October at SBC at 3 00 pm, followed by tea.  There will not be a 6 30 pm service at SBC that day.

 

PRAYER FOR THOMAS: There will be a time of prayer for Thomas Amokwandoh in the Prayer Room at Addington Road immediately following the morning service on 5 September.  Please join us for these special prayer times.

 

CROYDON CHURCHES FLOATING SHELTER AGM is on Sat 11 Sept 10-10 30 am followed by coffee at Shirley Methodist Church.  Volunteer training: 6 Nov 10 00 am-12 30 pm followed by lunch at Purley Baptist Church.  Email Hilary on hilhoward@hotmail.com if you are planning to volunteer for the 2011 shelter and would like to attend this worthwhile training.

 

JUNIOR FOOTBALL: We plan to run the joint Selsdon Baptist/Emmanuel junior football team again in the coming season, and we hope there will be a small league to play in. As a starter we are organising a friendly match for Saturday morning 11September  with Christchurch Chislehurst for school years 10,11,12,13. The league details are being finalised and will hopefully be the same age range.  If you would like to play, please give your name to Alan Bedford as soon as possible.

 

WOMEN'S BREAKFAST  (for all ages) Saturday 2 October 8 30-10 00 am for the first of three breakfasts together, led by Capt. Gillian Jackson who will help us explore themes based around the Trinity

She has shared this series with many people throughout the UK.  This should be a wonderful opportunity to spend time together and get closer to God. Gillian will use various media to share her message. She is a great speaker and has a very approachable way of sharing God's Word. I really hope you are able to attend. HARVEST:  Please contact Pat if you are able to help beautify the church for Harvest from  10 00 am on Saturday 25 September. Vases, dried flowers, greenery etc. Needed.

 

PASTORAL CARERS' MEETING on Tuesday,14 September at 8 00 pm at Addington Road.  Diane Watts will speak on 'Adolescence'.  Please put this date in your diaries.

 

HELP NEEDED: International Needs is doing a mail out on Tues 7 September and we would appreciate your help to stuff envelopes.  We will be in Room 3 at SBC from 10 00am-3 00pm. Please come and join us if you can.  For more info please phone Karen on 020 8688 3939.

 

INTERNATIONAL NEEDS, WALK FOR WATER:  Sponsored 10-mile walk through central London on Saturday 25 September.  Flyers available in the foyer at Addington Road and at Greenvale.

 

FEEL GOOD!  Be part of the world's BIGGEST Coffee Morning on Friday 24 September at Brenda Bateman's home, 32 Lime Meadow Avenue, Sanderstead, from 10 00 am - 12 30 pm, in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.

 

BIBLE SOCIETY SEPTEMBER SAUNTER:  On Saturday 18 September the annual Bible Society 'September Saunter' will take place, in aid of Scriptures for China.  For more details phone Sue on 020 8656 4760.

 

HOLIDAY AT HOME DEBRIEF MEETING: Anyone who was part of our Holiday at Home team is welcome to join us as we look back, reflect and evaluate on this year’s event on Tuesday    7 September, 2 00–4 00 pm in the Coffee Lounge.  If you can’t make it, but have thoughts to pass on, please contact David.

 

LOVEZIM:  The Evangelical Alliance have partnered with LoveZim (http://www.lovezim.org) in a daring and very exciting initiative.  Zimbabwe is a beautiful nation with great potential and many God-given promises, yet still struggles for justice and peace and the poor continue to suffer.  Please consider joining the LoveZim International Prayer Day on 26 Sept, which is supported by: African Enterprise, Evangelical Alliance UK, Global Connections, Global Day of Prayer, Samaritan's Purse, The Peace Alliance, Tearfund, and many others.

 

THE CHURCH LIBRARY is going to be folded into the BOOKSTALL in the next few weeks.  All the books will be available for second-hand purchase or for swapping.  If you donated a book for the Church Library that you would rather have back than see find a home elsewhere, please take it back over the next two weeks.

 

NETWORK Spiritual Gifts Course is a six-session process to help Christians understand who God has uniquely made them to be, and guide them to a place of meaningful service in the local church.  This will run on 9, 16 and 23 September from 8 00-10 15pm at Addington Road.  There are 18 spaces on the course; the workbooks cost £6 for each participant, but if this cost is  prohibitive please do not let it stop you attending.  Contact David if you wish to sign up or find out more  -  (See notice board in Coffee Lounge)

 

CHURCHES TOGETHER STUDY GROUPS:  The groups will run for four weeks from the week beginning 27 September (Cost  £4), when we will be studying the book of Ruth.  Please sign list in the foyer if you would like to attend, and also indicate if you would be willing to lead, or host, a group.

 

CONCERT BY CROYDON MALE VOICE CHOIR:   7 30 pm on Saturday 18 September in St Michael's Church, West Croydon. Tickets (to include a concert programme) £8. Tickets are available from Hilary Fife, 020 8401 3105 / . Cheques should be made payable to 'Mayday Healthcare Charity C539'. The choir have generously agreed to donate all profits to the Chapel Appeal. Do join us for a feast of music.

 

INSight:  The September issue of our monthly church magazine, INSight, is available.  Please take a copy.  An electronic pdf version is available, which has the advantage of pictures in colour. Contact the  church office for details or email   to request a copy.

LIGHTS: Can you please make sure that ALL lights on church premises are turned off if you are the last to leave the building.

Parish Nursing :  The 'Drop In' in the Coffee Lounge is usually open from 9 30am – 11 00am on the second Wednesday of the month. If you are worried about your health either call in to the Wednesday 'Drop In'  or contact Hilary for more information.  

 

Church Weekend 2010 Dates for the church weekend are 26th - 28th November 2010

 

THE SBC BOOKSTALL  You can order new books and buy greeting cards, but the bulk of the book stock is second hand. These books will be available in return for a small donation or on a "bring one, take one" basis and any profits made will go towards Church funds. We would be happy to receive donations of good quality, second hand Christian books.

 

LARGE PRINT INSIGHT  -  If you  find it difficult to read and would like to have a large print version, please add your name to the list in the foyer at Addington Road, or on the table at Greenvale, and a large print copy will be set aside for you each month.

 

HOMEGROUP DETAILS:  If you would like to join a homegroup, leaflets giving up-to-date details of the homegroups currently meeting are available on the Welcome table.  Please take one.

 

Re-cycling - Glass, cans and tins can now be recycled in the kitchen, in the cupboard next to the dishwasher, but MUST be rinsed clean first. Please refrain from putting plastic cups or any non-paper-based items into the paper recycling boxes. There have been numerous plastic cups found in the bags when recycled.

 

Church groups/committees meeting offsite  -  If you are holding a meeting, eg Sunday Club, Evangelism Committee, etc, in a home please let the office know so that it can be noted in the diary to avoid a clash of meetings.  (This does not apply to home groups.)

 

Activity Bags are available for toddlers to use and enjoy in the services, and are at the entrances of both SBC Addington Road and Greenvale.  Please return after use.

 

Communion Services - To help accommodate people with allergies we are willing to provide some gluten-free bread for our communion services, if you let us know in advance of your requirements. Please contact Mike Elcome or David Mayne to arrange this.

 

ROAD SAFETY  -  Please take care on the church drive – remember that it is used by both pedestrians and cars bringing disabled people to church. Keep a lookout for yourselves and your children.
