CALLING ALL YOUNG PEOPLE:  Tomorrow night (Monday 6 October) I am holding a baptism class for any young person who is interested in being baptized, at my house, 153 Addington Road at 8 00pm. Baptism is an outward sign and profession of your faith. If you want to know more about being baptized please let me know soon. We are intending the next Ignite to be a baptismal service. I hope to hear from you.  Roland

ON THE BOOKSTALL TODAY:  The Shack – the new best seller (£5.30) – a Christian fiction book, now on WH Smith’s top sellers’ list, highly recommended.   What Happened to the Ark of the Covenant and I Still Have More Questions Than Answers (both reviewed in Insight).

WASHING MACHINE REQUIRED:  Do you have an old, washing machine in working order, that you no longer require?  Ruth Manson is looking for one to pass on to someone in need.  Please speak to her.

CHURCH WEEKEND, DAY VISITORS:  Booking forms are now available for those who can join us on either Saturday 15 November or Sunday 16 November. Pick up a form from the Information table at Addington Road or Greenvale. 

Deacons Election 2008. Please can all church members pick up their named letter  about the deacons’ election.  

Scriptures for Albania:  Both Brian Reeves and Mike Potts completed the 10-mile sponsored walk for Scriptures for Albania last Saturday.   Retrospective sponsorship would be welcomed if you did not have the opportunity to see them before the event. Thank you. Barbara Burns. 

The ANNUAL CONFERENCE of Churches Together in the Borough of Croydon will be on Saturday, 8 November 2008 at Shirley Methodist Church (postcode CR0 8SD) coffee from 9.30 am; meeting from 10.00 am to 12.00 noon.   Please accept this as your personal invitation. The new format which was so much welcomed last year will be repeated with presentations from various Christian groups illustrating the work that the churches do in the Borough.  Please book the date in your diary and come.

PARISH NURSING: For the next three weeks, Wednesdays 1, 8 and 15 October, we will be using the church for the ‘Drop in’ so our visitors should come to the original (wooden) church doors between 9 30 and 11 00 am.   Although the middle doors will be open, there are other users in the coffee lounge on those dates, and this way we can maintain our usual level of privacy and confidentiality while the session is running.

SPORTS EQUIPMENT:  If you lent some equipment to Summer Fun Days and have not yet reclaimed it please collect it from Room 3, otherwise we will have to get rid of it.

WANTED:  Volunteers needed to tidy up the grounds from 9 30 - 11 00 am  Thursday 9 October morning.  If you can’t make that time, but can come some other time please see Mike Elcome.

CHILDREN’S COATS:      In the Office there is a dustbin sack full of mostly children’s coats removed from the pegs upstairs. If you think any of them may belong to you or your children, please have a look. Any not claimed by Thursday 16 October will be ‘recycled’. 

LOOKING AHEAD: The dates given last week for Holiday @ Home and Summer Fun Days 2009 were incorrect.  We will confirm correct dates as soon as we can.

LADIES’ PRAYER BREAKFAST Saturday 29 November, 8 30 - 10 30 am. This will replace the Prayer Evening originally scheduled for Friday night, 28 November.

WANTED:  Volunteer to tidy up the garden area along the front path.  Anyone willing to give an hour or so please see Mike. 

MISSION DAY at FAIRFIELD HALLS:  (sponsored by Purley BC) A day of inspirational teaching on World Mission, Saturday 1 November 2008.  Hear the latest incredible stories from Jackie Pullinger; Eddie Lyle, CEO, Open Doors; and many more.  Teaching, seminars and children’s programme commence at 10 00 am. HOMEGROUP DETAILS If you would like to join a homegroup, leaflets giving up-to-date details of the homegroups currently meeting are available on the Welcome table.  Please take one.

Gate at bottom of church drive: As a result of recent security issues the police have asked us to lock the gate at the bottom of the church drive every night.  Please would the last person leaving the premises each day ensure that this is done.  The code can be obtained in advance from the church office.

Anyone interested in going to see Delirious at the O2 arena on Saturday 18 October, please see Roland ASAP. Tickets are available on a first come, first served basis. Tickets cost £15. This is a SBC Youth trip, any adults please seek your own tickets.

Youth Football We are entering a team into the South London Churches     Football League this autumn, in the school years 7 9 age range. Games will be on a  Saturday morning, and we will have a joint team together with Emmanuel and Croham Road Baptist. If you are interested in joining the team, please let Alan Bedford or Roland have your name. The season started on Saturday 4th October.

There are lots of books in many different categories in the (free) Church Library in the Coffee Lounge; books to inspire, challenge, encourage, educate and relax you.  Why not take a few minutes to browse the shelves you might find something that would ‘hit the spot’ for you today.

LARGE PRINT INSIGHT  -  If you  find it difficult to read and would like to have a large print version, please add your name to the list in the foyer at Addington Road, or on the table at Greenvale, and a large print copy will be set aside for you each month.

Re-cycling - Glass, cans and tins can now be recycled in the kitchen, in the cupboard next to the dishwasher, but MUST be rinsed clean first. Please refrain from putting plastic cups or any non-paper-based items into the paper recycling boxes. There have been numerous plastic cups found in the bags when recycled. 

Church groups/committees meeting offsite  -  If you are holding a meeting, eg Sunday Club, Evangelism Committee, etc, in a home please let the office know so that it can be noted in the diary to avoid a clash of meetings.  (This does not apply to home groups.)

Activity Bags are available for toddlers to use and enjoy in the services, and are at the entrances of both SBC Addington Road and Greenvale.  Please return after use. 

Communion Services - To accommodate people with allergies we shall be providing some gluten-free bread for our Communion Services.  If this affects you please let Mike Elcome  or David Mayne know. 

ROAD SAFETY  -  Please take care on the church drive – remember that it is used by both pedestrians and cars bringing disabled people to church. Keep a lookout for yourselves and your children.
