Hooked on Mission
In February 2007 we completed a three week
series called "Hooked on Mission" in association with International Needs. The series focussed on the biblical basis
of mission, from God's mission to the people of Israel in the
Old Testament, through Jesus as the God acting in person in
Mission, to the work of the early church and the missionaries of
the past. The culmination focussed on mission today, with the
Sunday worship on 11th February replaced by a mission fair. The
chairs were taken out of the sanctuary, and it was changed into
something like a market place. Stalls were provided by various
mission societies, refreshments in the form of Indian sweets and Chai were provided, and worship took place amidst the hubub!
Hopefully everyone was challenged to play their part in mission.

FEBA
(Far Eastern Broadcasting Association) had a stand, with their
"Studio in a Briefcase" - everything to compile a radio program
out in the field.
Latin
Link runs the Step Latin America program, which sends out young
people to Latin America in teams for short term mission. Teams
work in mission with Latin American Christians every spring for
four month, and summer for seven weeks. They also arrange six
month to two year placements for individuals.
Browsing
in the market is interrupted, for everyone to join in a period
of worship. At various points through the morning we stopped
for interviews with stallholders, children's talk, drama, a
short message, prayer and more singing. A mystery object
treasure hunt was laid on for the children, with objects located
on each stall for the children to find.
The youngest children had their normal Sunday Club, starting
after the first 20 minutes.
International Needs is a worldwide Christian mission and
development agency, a partnership that operates in over thirty
developing countries around the globe, helping thousands of
people as they struggle against persecution, poverty and
disease, whatever their belief system.
International Needs are the authors of the 'Getting Hooked on
Mission' course. Their director, Peter Staley, led the morning's
activities. He can be seen below (left) interviewing the
stallholder from YWAM (Youth With A Mission)
