The
SELSDON BAPTIST CHURCH COOKBOOK
in aid
of the floating shelter
The
Selsdon Baptist Church Cookbook is now in production
and the first 250 copies are expected to be
available by the end of November. The
Cookbook contains about 220 recipes that have been
contributed by around 60 members and friends of
Selsdon Baptist Church. The book is divided into
four colour identifiable sections entitled, Soups,
Starters and Sundries, Main Courses, Desserts,
and Cakes and Cookies and comes
with plastic comb binding, so that it lies flat when
opened, and acetate covers that enable it to be
wiped clean.
We
are delighted to tell you that the first day of the
launch has seen pre-publication orders of more than
85 copies with promises for many more orders to
come. The sample copy of the book has been well
received and people seem to be pleased, impressed
and possibly even surprised by the quality of this
amazingly good value publication that is available
for only £5.00 per copy.
Please place your orders as soon as possible in
person, or by telephone, or by e-mail so that you
can take advantage of this opportunity to secure an
original, unique, enduring and timeless Christmas
gift for family members, friends and indeed for
yourself.
Books
will be available in the Foyer on Sundays or by
arrangement with us for collection from the Office.
Please remember that included in the £5.00 price for
the book is the donated profit of nearly £1.50 for
the work of the Floating Shelter, so very clearly a
"WIN - WIN situation" for all concerned.
Very
many thanks for all your support and encouragement
and, of course, your orders.

70th Birthday Party
Our guide unit (2nd Selsdon Guides)
celebrated it's 70th birthday on Saturday 5th November. Past
members were invited back for the party and there was a display
of old uniforms, pictures of past guides and guiders,
presentations by the current guides, and of course a cake. The
cake was cut jointly by our youngest guide aged 10, and one of
the guides who attended the first meeting! Go
here for pictures.

Summer Fun Days
This year's holiday club for children,
"Summer Fun Days" was a great success. It operated on the church
site and on Selsdon Primary's playing field. The outdoor games
were well attended with an average of 30 children on each of the
three days. Plenty of messing about with water bombs, shaving
foam, and of course football.
About 65 children attended the craft section
at the church. This was based on a theme of Pirates, and the
children enjoyed making hats, treasure boxes, telescopes,
earrings, eye patches, and a large pirate ship.
The children all came together for a session
in the church involving singing, silliness, and a bible based
video.
Baptisms
We were delighted to celebrate the baptisms
of
David Cole, David Foster and Zoe Simmons on 3rd July.

The Selfish Giant
On 12th June the normal morning service
was replaced by the Sunday Club celebration which featured a
production of The Selfish Giant by Rascal Productions.
This was based on the original story by Oscar Wilde, and
featured the giant's garden. Because he wouldn't let the
children play in it, Spring was banished from the garden and
constant winter was brought by North Wind, The Snow Queen, Jack
Frost and Hail. The pantomime of course came to a happy ending,
and everyone had a great time.
There was plenty of singing, "he's behind
you", and the opportunity to 'boo' in church!
David Mayne
The members meeting on May 18th unanimously decided to invite
David Mayne to join us as student assistant minister.
David
will be studying at Spurgeon's College and working with us as
his Church placement. David preached at Selsdon on the Sunday
before, and reminded us that the Holy Spirit is a person not a
thing, and our helper.
David will join us on 1st September.
